AI on your TYPO3 website – clearly explained, noticeably effective

Artificial intelligence – AI for short – sounds like the future, but it has long since become part of our everyday lives. It is embedded in search engines, in translation programs and in the assistants on our smartphones. On your own website, AI can today take over tasks that until now have tied up your staff hour after hour – reliably, around the clock and in every language.

What a well-configured AI does for you:

A properly configured AI application noticeably changes the way your company works. It has an impact in three areas.

  • First, it significantly reduces your costs. Tasks that today require several employees run automatically. You save staff hours, avoid overtime during peak periods and need to commission external service providers less often.
  • Second, it saves you a huge amount of time. Information that today has to be laboriously gathered is immediately available. Your customers no longer wait for answers, and your team no longer spends half days paging through documents or databases.
  • Third, it relieves your staff. The AI takes over monotonous standard requests that today are annoying and time-consuming. What remains are the tasks that truly require human judgement – and that is precisely where your team can play to its strengths.

One thing is important here: AI is not a self-runner. An "off-the-shelf" solution rarely delivers good results. Only when the AI is properly adapted to your content, your language and your processes does it unfold its full benefit. That is exactly what we specialize in.

AI for TYPO3 — make meaningful use of the content you already have

Many companies have been gathering knowledge in their TYPO3 for years: product descriptions, technical documentation, FAQ content, articles, training materials. We build AI functions that activate exactly this material — for visitors who get answers faster, and for editors who complete recurring tasks in a fraction of the time.

Three things matter to us here:

  • Deeply integrated into TYPO3 — not a third-party tool tacked on top, but extensions that work natively in the editor and the frontend
  • Based on your own content — answers are traceable, with a source, and can be supplemented with expert knowledge from a language model where needed
  • GDPR-compliant — without US providers if you prefer — Mistral or self-hosted models, instead of automatic dependence on OpenAI

What we make possible

Real help for visitors: answers instead of link lists

A classic website search returns a list of hits — visitors must click, read and piece together the answer themselves. An AI-powered search does exactly that: read, understand, formulate a concrete answer. With a reference to the TYPO3 page the information comes from, so that nothing gets lost and everything remains verifiable.

Where it makes sense, we combine your own content with the general knowledge of a language model — for example when a visitor needs a definition that is not in your material but is directly related to the topic. Typical areas of use: product and service pages, technical documentation, consulting and knowledge portals, multilingual sites.

Noticeable relief for editors: write faster without leaving the editor

We integrate AI directly into the TYPO3 backend — not as an external tool running on the side, but as a native part of the editorial workflow. Research on the topic, initial text drafts, translations into multiple languages, SEO suggestions for title and description, rewrites into plain language: all right where you are already working.

Important: The AI does not replace an editor; it takes over the recurring preliminary work. You still decide what you publish.

Connecting existing knowledge — beyond TYPO3 too

Many organizations have knowledge that is not stored in TYPO3 at all: in Confluence, SharePoint, Nextcloud, internal wikis, PDF collections. We build bridges so that a search or an assistant also includes this material — controlled, with clear permissions, without content having to move out of its original system.

How it works technically

We rely on two coordinated building blocks:

TYPO3 extensions for the editorial workflow

Native integration in the backend — no new window, no copy-paste. The interfaces to Mistral, Claude, OpenAI or local models are configurable, so you can switch the model without changing the way you work.

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) on your content

So that the language model can work with your content, it is prepared in a vector database — structured, searchable, with clear source attribution. This is the basis for ensuring that answers are not hallucinated but come from your material. Updates to your content are automatically added to the index.

GDPR-compliant — and not as a promise, but as an architecture

The most common question when we propose AI in TYPO3 is: “Is that even possible under the GDPR?” The short answer: Yes, if done correctly. The longer answer distinguishes three scenarios — and you choose which one fits you:

Scenario 1: Entirely without US providers

You use exclusively European or self-hosted language models:

  • Mistral (France) — full-featured model, EU hosting, DPA under the GDPR, our recommendation
  • Aleph Alpha (Heidelberg) — on request on-premise in your own data centre
  • Open-source models (Llama, Mistral) on your own hardware or in an EU cloud

No CLOUD Act, no third-country transfer, full data sovereignty. We recommend this variant whenever personal or sensitive business data is involved.

Scenario 2: OpenAI or Azure OpenAI with a sound legal basis

If you wish to access the particularly powerful US models, this is possible within a clearly defined framework:

  • Access exclusively via the API or Azure OpenAI, not via the ChatGPT web interface
  • Data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR
  • Contractual assurance that your data will not be used for model training
  • On request, Azure region "Germany West Central" — data does not leave Germany

Scenario 3: Hybrid with data filtering

For tasks where a US model offers genuine added value, we send only what may be safely transmitted: no personal data, no internal identifiers, no confidential content. The filtering happens automatically before the data leaves your system.

Frequently Asked Questions about AI in the TYPO3 Environment

Is it GDPR-compliant to use ChatGPT for creating website content?

Via the OpenAI API with a data processing agreement in place and under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, generally yes. Via the free ChatGPT in the browser with customer or personal data, no. For sensitive content, we recommend European models such as Mistral.

Will I receive hallucinated answers?

Our solutions work with Retrieval-Augmented Generation: The model may only answer what is actually stated in the stored sources, and it cites the reference. If a question cannot be answered, the system states this openly.

What does introducing AI into an existing TYPO3 installation cost?

That depends on the scope. An intelligent search function based on your content is already possible for under €1,000. More extensive integrations – such as AI in the editorial workflow or RAG across multiple sources – typically start in the four- to five-figure range for the implementation, plus ongoing costs for the language model. Before every project, we prepare an effort estimate with a fixed cost framework.

Do we need to restructure our TYPO3 content so that the AI can process it?

No. We build the index on your existing content. If structural weaknesses become apparent in the process, you will be informed of them as a by-product and can decide for yourself what to do about them.

We are running an older TYPO3 version. Is AI still possible?

In principle, yes. However, before an AI integration, we recommend an update to a currently supported version, as this is the security foundation on which everything else is built. If required, we can handle this at the same time.

Will our staff be replaced by AI?

No. What your people do changes: less repetitive work, more content-related and conceptual work. We also train your team in using the new tools.

How we typically approach an AI project

1. Initial consultation (free of charge, approximately 45 minutes)

We understand where you stand today, what the content and your users need — and what you expect from AI. In the end, we jointly know whether a project makes sense and what scope it would fall within.

2. Content and architecture analysis (fixed-price package, approx. 1 – 2 weeks)

We take a concrete look at your TYPO3 installation and your content. You receive a clear assessment, a proposal for the appropriate GDPR scenario (see above) and a firm quote for the implementation.

3. Pilot with a clear success question (4 – 8 weeks)

Instead of setting up a large project, we begin with a pilot scope that answers a specific question: Does the search work the way your visitors want it to? Do your editors really save time with it? You see results before the next budget is spent.

4. Expansion and operation

If the pilot proves successful, we expand it. If not, we learn together what went wrong — and you haven't accumulated a six-month risk.

Does this sound like a project that fits your needs?

Write us two sentences about what you are currently working on or what you have in mind — we will get back to you within one business day with an honest assessment. The initial consultation is free, and it ends either with a concrete next step or with a candid recommendation of what else would make sense.
