Manual · Chapter 1 · Part A Getting started
What is dAI Pro
Purpose
dAI Pro turns what you already have into an assistant that answers: your website, your PDFs, your knowledge base, your ticket system. Visitors ask questions in the chat or search, and dAI Pro answers exclusively from this content, citing its sources. What is not in your content, it does not invent; it says so openly and offers the way to a human.
The manual describes both editions: the extension for TYPO3 and the standalone application. Interface and terms are the same; where something differs, a box “In TYPO3” appears at the end of the section.
The terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Collection | A self-contained knowledge base with its own settings, its own data sources and its own search index. One collection per website, brand or audience. Everything in the manual takes place within a collection. |
| Data source | Where the knowledge comes from: a website, uploaded files, a folder, a database, Confluence, Nextcloud and more. A collection can have any number of data sources. |
| Document | An indexed piece of content: a web page, a PDF file, a table row. Documents can be activated, deactivated, re-indexed or copied to other collections individually. |
| Index | The searchable form of the documents. dAI Pro splits every document into sections and stores them so that they can be found by meaning and by keywords. The index is created by “Process”. |
| Chat | The channel in which visitors ask and receive answers with sources. As a bubble on every page or fixed within a page. |
| Search | The second channel: a hit list over the index, with a summary. |
| Assistant | A profile within the collection with its own persona, its own question–answer pairs and narrowed knowledge, for example for the careers page or a product. |
| Agent | A scheduled task: check the content for changes, find gaps, answer questions from support, write reports. |
| Language model | The AI that answers and understands texts. dAI Pro works with several providers; you decide which collection uses which model. |
How an answer is produced
- The visitor asks a question.
- dAI Pro searches the collection's index for the sections that match the question, by meaning and by keywords.
- The language model formulates the answer from exactly these sections. The knowledge rule forbids it to add knowledge of its own.
- The answer appears with the sources it comes from. If dAI Pro finds nothing suitable, it says so and, if set up, offers the handover to a human.
For smaller collections, dAI Pro can pass along the entire content instead of searching. It decides this itself for each question; Chapter 4 describes the setting for this.

What dAI Pro deliberately does not do
- Invent. Answers come from your content. If something is missing, the chat says so. If you want an answer, change the content or create a question–answer pair (Chapter 10).
- Decide. Callback, appointment, ticket: the chat prepares, nothing is sent until the visitor confirms (Chapter 12).
- Collect. The chat sets no cookies. The log serves quality assurance and is deleted after a fixed period (Chapter 20).
Two roles
- Editors maintain content, texts and persona: collections, data sources, chat and search, assistants, agents, support inbox. Parts A to E of this manual.
- Administrators install, connect language models, create users and operate the system. Parts F and G.
